Arguing for the PROPOSITION
Louise Mensch // A British journalist and former Conservative MP, Mensch is an outspoken commentator on Putin and President Trump’s alleged links to Russia.
Barbara Demick // An American journalist, formerly Beijing bureau chief of the Los Angeles Times. Her second book, Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea, will be transformed into an animated film in 2018.
John Everard // A former British diplomat and former Ambassador to Belarus, Uruguay, and most recently, North Korea. Subsequently, Everard was appointed Coordinator of the UN Panel of Experts on sanctions against North Korea.
Arguing for the OPPOSITION
James Hoare // A career diplomat in the foreign office, Hoare laid the foundations for the establishment of the British embassy in Pyongyang.
Adam Cathcart // North Korea analyst and lecturer in contemporary Chinese history and Sino-Korean relations, teaching at the University of Leeds.
George Clay // George graduated from Jesus College in 2017 and is now completing an MPhil in Early Modern History at Hughes Hall. He has represented the Cambridge Union at three World Universities Debating Championships, and in 2015 was the thirteenth-ranked university speaker in the World.
